Readings- Luke 8, Psalm 20

Dear children of light,

What do you think about this?  I had a patient speak to one of my staff about where I had sent him for treatment.  He told them that I needed to send him somewhere else because where he had gone, there was a lesbian that worked there as well as another man that needed to get to church.  He is an outspoken believer that has also criticized some of my staff for their having tattoos.  Those working with me have been outraged by his comments.   What about this individual?  Is he simply being obedient to God’s call to be holy?  Are his words consistent with God’s Word?

Luke records the parable of the sower and the seed.  In Luke 8:15 we read about those that are true believers.

Luke 8:15 (NIV)
15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

What kind of crop are we to produce?  How does it happen?

And look at Luke 8:16:

 Luke 8:16 (NIV)
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.

What is this light to look like?  Was there light displayed with this man’s comments?   Consider the following verses.

Ephesians 5:8-14 (NIV)
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
10 and find out what pleases the Lord.
11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible,
14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Do these support his actions?  Think about these things.  I will comment more later on these on the web page noted below.  Right now I want you to wrestle with these things.  How are we to be light?  How do we express holiness?  How is Christ seen in us?

I will talk with you more later!

In Christ’s love,

Please comment below or e-mail me back.  Let’s search out how we are to live in this world.  We are told that we are aliens, and that our citizenship is in heaven.  We are called to be holy.  Do we separate ourselves from the world as this individual exhibits?  Is this how we display our light, exposing what is contrary to God’s character?

  1. Here is one comment I received by e-mail:

    Mark 2:17 (NIV)
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

…..glad Jesus came for me in my sin and not my righteousness because how much righteousness is enough?

    Romans 3:20 (NIV)
20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

    Romans 8:35-39 (NIV)
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

if those things can’t separate me from the love of God or eternity once I put my faith and trust in Him I don’t think any tattoo will either.
