1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NASB95)
13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.
Dear men and women,
Do you ever doubt someone’s word? If they promise you something, do you say, “Yeah, like that is going to happen!” Have you ever broken a promise? I know that I have. That is why I love hearing that “God is not a man that he should lie, nor a son of man that he should change His mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does He promise and then not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19)
I am challenged by the people in the Church of Thessalonica. They treated the Word of God as just that, the Word of God. So many today seem to be wanting to hear the audible voice of God. Don’t get me wrong. I long to hear His voice and see His face, and I know that it will be a reality one day. Maybe some even today may hear His voice. However, that does not make His written Word any less reliable, or any less powerful, or any less alive. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that all Scripture is God breathed!
How many of you would give anything to hear from you girlfriend or boyfriend right now? How many of you would love to have a boyfriend or girlfriend right now?:) How many would love to have a meaningful conversation with your spouse? How many would love to hear God speak to you right now?
My desire is so for you and I to recognize that the Word of God is the Word of God and that we would treat it that way, that we would stand on His promises, not wavering. Have you heard from the Lord yet today? Rather than read this anymore, why not open up His Word now?
The end of the verse above tells us that the Word of God is able to perform its work. Let’s give it a chance!
We have the very Words of God in our possession. What will we do now?
If any of you are interested in a journal to help you treat the Word correctly, and to journal your walk with the Lord as you listen to Him, let me know. I would love to see you get this.
Genesis 1:3 (NASB95)
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. Hebrews 4:12 (NASB95)
12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
1 Samuel 3:19 (NASB95)
19 Thus Samuel grew and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fail.
2 Timothy 2:15 (NASB95)
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
Colossians 3:16 (NASB95)
16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
