Knowledge of God

Readings  2 Peter 1

 roller-coaster

Have you ever wanted to avoid the long lines for the roller coaster rides?

All it takes is getting to the park real early and be one of the first ones through the main gate.

  But, how many of us are willing to get up that early?

2 Peter 1:2-3 (NASB95)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;
3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

Dear knowledge seekers,

You want an A on the test, but are unwilling to study.  You want the job, but don’t follow through on turning in the applications, and making the phone calls.  You want to be first on the roller coaster, but are unwilling to get to the park early.  You want fresh chocolate chip cookies, but are unwilling to help in the kitchen.  You want to water ski, but you are unwilling to fall a few times(Okay, maybe more than a few).  You want to visit another country, but will not save the money for it.  You want to share Christ with someone, but are unwilling to make the first step.  You want to enjoy God, but fail to seek Him out.

You add your own statement.  We all have desires for something, but often fall short in achieving it, because we have failed to make the effort.

Do you want more “grace and peace to be multiplied to you”?  Then spend time with the Lord.  Spend time in His Word.  I shared recently in a Church gathering a quote from Charles Spurgeon.  Listen,

Spurgeon says: “Why is it that some people are often in a place of worship and yet they’re not holy? It is because they neglect their closets. They love the wheat but they do not grind it; they would have the corn but they will not go forth into the field to gather it; the fruit hangs on the tree but they will not pluck it; and the water flows at their feet but they’ll not stoop to drink it.”

We want so much, but often times we are unwilling to make the effort.  Have your flesh get out of the way.  Listen to your heart.  Those of you in Christ have been given a new heart, a heart to fear God, a heart to love God, a heart to know God.  Yield to it.  You are now a worshiper of God.  Your deepest desire is to know Him.  Enjoy your time with Him!  Enjoy getting to know Him.  We enjoy grace and peace through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

My prayer for you is the prayer Paul prayed to the Colossian Church:

Colossians 1:9-12 (NASB95)
9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

Knowledge is so important.  Knowing God is important, but being known by God is what really makes salvation possible.

God chose us first, loved us first, and we can know Him because He knows us!

Galatians 4:9 (NASB95)
9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?

Let’s make every effort to continue on in knowing Him.  After all, that is who we really are, His children, wanting to spend time with our Father.

Known by Him,

Steve
