Readings Galatians 5
Okay, so these are not on a beach, in their natural state.
Okay, I did not even find them on a beach. I bought them.
But these are real, really!
Galatians 5:13-15 (NIV)
13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
Dear difference makers,
We talked tonight in Bible study about who we can learn from. Looking at a variety of Scriptures we see that we can learn from just about anything and anyone. We can learn from the ant, fathers, leaders, other men and women, Jesus, God the Father, one another. We have a privilege to speak words of life to those around us. None of you, are without the ability to teach. If you are in Christ, then Christ is in you. Verse 15 above tells us that we should not be involved in fighting with one another.
Rather, verses 13-14 above, speak of serving one another in love. We will see a specific way of doing this in chapter 6. But for now, consider who your neighbor is. Recognize that you are able to touch a life that none of the rest of us can.
Tonight, Tony reminded us of a story that was originally told by Loren Eiseley in The Star Thrower.
There was a native man walking along a shore in Mexico that was throwing something back into the ocean as he walked. As another man approached this one, he asked him what he was doing. The man replied that he was throwing starfish back into the ocean. There were thousands on the shore as it was low tide. He told the questioner, that if he did not throw them back that they would die.
The interested man commented that there were far more than the man could throw back, and that there were thousands more on other beaches elsewhere. There was no way that this man could make a difference.
As the native threw another one back he said, “Made a difference to that one.”
What “starfish” will you make a difference with today?
Who will you love with Words from our Lord?
Don’t waste the opportunity, for if you are a disciple of Christ, Christ is in you. Let the Light shine!
Sorry that I have not written in a while. Seems that life got very busy, been a way for a while and preparing other things, and have neglected writing to you. Looks like the days ahead will be more available to keep in contact. Feel free to share with us. I need to learn from you, as God speaks through you.
