Like a Chameleon

What a beautiful time of year!  We have learned to expect these changes every fall.

Is there anything else we can expect in our lives?

Galatians 6:7-8 (NASB95)
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

Dear people of color,   (aren’t we all just variations of color, red, yellow, black and white, ………..-we are all precious in His sight!)

With all the changing colors outside, I was reminded of a lizard type creature, no, not our friend the gecko, we have grown to love on TV commercials.  A Chameleon!  When we lived in Florida we had these little green, no, I mean brown, well kind of a green brown.  Wait.  It depends on what they are resting on at the time.

I would love catching them and then placing them on something different than the color they were.  If green, put them on a brown branch.  If brown, put them on a lush green leaf.  And then sit back and watch the transformation.  It was inevitable.  It was just a matter of time, and the color would change.  Just as real as we know every fall the leaves will change color then fall off, dead.

The Scripture above reminded me of this truth about leaves and chameleons.  It reminds me of our tendency to forget that what we sow, we will reap.  I see a lot of chameleons around me, including myself at times.  Spend enough time with particular friends, particular reading material, movies, TV, music, various activities, and guess what?  The color begins to change!  What we place our attention and time on, will directly effect our behavior, will directly affect our enjoyment of God, will affect our ability to glorify God, which is what we are created for.   Most people are looking for purpose in life.  As followers of Christ we have found purpose.  When we don’t sow, put our trust, dependence, time on Christ, the evidence of our actions will be clear, and we will pay the cost.

What are you resting on?

I pray that you are resting on the Word of God.  That you are finding comfort in our Lord,  abiding in Him.

What you sow, you will reap!

If you sow to satisfy your own flesh, your lust, your earthly desires, you will reap what you sow.

But if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life.

Please, if you want to act like a lizard, be a gecko, and not a Chameleon.

Better yet, remind yourself that as a Christian, you are a child of God, a saint, a priest, a temple of God.

Temples of God are not to act like Chameleons.

It is just not who we are!

What in the world are you sitting on?

Red all over,

Steve

Add a little color to this monologue!  🙂
