Unskilled in Speech

Readings Exodus 6

Do you think you could make one of these?

This group might have said no, before they gave it a try.

We will really test your faith, and see if you would sit on one that I helped build.

Dear fellow orators, or not,

Exodus 6:10-13 (NASB95)
10 Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
11 “Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the sons of Israel go out of his land.”
12 But Moses spoke before the LORD, saying, “Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me; how then will Pharaoh listen to me, for I am unskilled in speech?”
13 Then the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and gave them a charge to the sons of Israel and to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

What part of this command did Moses not hear?

Exodus 6:28-30 (NASB95)
28 Now it came about on the day when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,
29 that the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “I am the LORD; speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak to you.”
30 But Moses said before the LORD, “Behold, I am unskilled in speech; how then will Pharaoh listen to me?”

Moses was placing the success of God’s plan on his own ability, or lack of it.  He was disregarding God doing the work.

We also figure we can not be successful if we do not look like the world with polished ability.  We think that it has to come from our own ability as did Moses.  We tend to think of success as a positive response to our words.  God looks at the obedience of speaking those words.  Leave the results up to Him.

As we have been going through Share Jesus Without Fear at our church, that is the same message.  “Success in witnessing is not bringing someone to Christ.”

“Success in witnessing is:  Living out my Christian life.  Sharing the Gospel. Trusting God for the results.”

Another statement that relates to obedience in witnessing is this:

“God’s part in witnessing is : Creating opportunities by working in the lives of the lost.

Our part is:  Capturing the opportunities God has created.”

Moses had trouble with this concept.   How about you and me?  Will we make the most of every opportunity?

“You can not fail if you are faithful to what God has asked you to do.”

Unskilled in speech,

Steve

Read on in Exodus to see what God did through a man unskilled in speech.  Be obedient to Him today and see what He can do now.
