Readings Exodus 7-8
Exodus 7:7 (NASB95)
7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
You are not using age as an excuse are you? Being young or old shouldn’t matter.
One of the sights in Mexico I wasn’t planning on.
You should check out some YouTube video on a recent Oklahoma hail storm. Pretty amazing. www.news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978253070
Nobody was planning on that hail.
A couple weeks ago I was trying to figure out how in the world an elderly lady bruised her face by opening her car door. I had her try to replay the event not sure how it could happen. Well, I figured out how it could happen. I have a cut on my forehead to prove it. There was no way I figured on anything like that happening today.
I am sure the Egyptians were not planning on anything like what was going to happen when Moses and the LORD showed up.
Water turned to blood.
Gnats on man and beasts.
Flies a swarming!
Boils a rising.
Hail crushing everything.
And finally the death of every firstborn.
The next few chapters reveal the events in detail. We see the hand of God working out His purposes, to ultimately deliver His people. God always gets His way, and I am thankful for that.
A couple things jumped out at me today.
One being that God was going to make it clear who He was to the Egyptian people.
Exodus 7:5 (NASB95)
5 “The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.”
God chose to show Himself then in mighty ways. Today He wants to show others in mighty ways through us. No not with hail and frogs, but with the love of Christ, a demonstration of His life changing power.
2 Corinthians 4:7-10 (NASB95)
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;
8 we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing;
9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
10 always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.
Then I was reminded how the wise men and sorcerers, and magicians of Egypt were able to replicate a couple of the plagues.
Exodus 7:11 (NASB95)
11 Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts.
Satan and his co-conspirators are not without their magic. Satan himself is called the angel of light. He can be very deceptive and we need to recognize that he is still roaming around looking for someone to devour. Beware, stay tight with our Lord listening to Him through His Word, and talking with Him. Recognize your total dependence on Him. Don’t neglect the family of God and how God uses them to encourage, love, admonish, pray for, bear one another’s burdens, serve, honor……..
Don’t let Satan fool you. Take every thought captive!
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (NASB95)
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,
4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,
6 and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.
Be fully prepared.
Ephesians 6:16-18 (NASB95)
16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,
Get into the right position.
James 4:7 (NASB95)
7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
When Moses and the Israelites submitted to God, then things happened. Let them happen today by submitting to Him.
