Readings Matthew 2
This party took some planning. It was great that the people showed up to enjoy it. It was for ladies only, a wedding shower. Men, we were being discriminated against. 🙂
Dear loved ones,
I remember on my 40th birthday having a surprise party that I was able to enjoy. It was obvious that there was a lot of preplanning done, and I was so grateful for that. The crazy presents followed a certain theme. We were able to enjoy some great food that had been prepared and purchased. The time had been preset, and the word had been sent out. Then I was able to sit back and enjoy hearing and seeing from people of my past, including Andrew, who used to beat me up as a child, an old teacher of mine, and a former girlfriend,(that one I did not remember, don’t quite remember a girl named Lucy). The whole evening was so much fun to be a part of. All that planning with me being a part of it.
There is something however far greater than that party, that we are able to be a part of for all eternity. God has planned for His people to be part of a much greater celebration. Are you looking forward to that day?
In Matthew 2, we see some of the plans of God coming to pass. We see prophecy after prophecy being fulfilled.
First we read about the star appearing as a sign of the birth of the Messiah, the One predicted to come to rescue Israel, and the entire world. After that we see the prediction that Bethlehem would be the site of His birth, and then a reference to Jesus coming out of Egypt, and to the fact that He would be in Nazareth for a time, as Nazareth was looked down on as a town, and Jesus, though being King of kings, would be rejected and looked down on by so many! Here are some of the Old Testament references to what Matthew was referring to: Numbers 24:17; Micah 5:2; Hosea 11:1; Jeremiah 31:15.
The birth of Jesus was not some random event. It was planned by our Father God before the foundations of the earth! Your salvation, if you are in Christ, is something beautiful. It is this majestic story that God is authoring, that you and I have the privilege of being a part of. Look at Ephesians 1:3-10 (NIV)
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will–
6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.
9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,
10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment–to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.
He chose us before the creation of the world!
God has an ultimate plan to bring all things together under one person, Jesus Christ.
The Bible is the Truth of God that will continue to WOW us as we read it and see that it is an amazing love story, how God has meticulously planned out His seeking out a people to be His very own, of obtaining a Bride for His Son. If we have trusted in His Son, we are now His people. Listen to Peter in
1 Peter 2:9-10 (NIV)
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Will you praise Him today? Will you worship Him now?
A. W. Tozer once said, “If you will not worship God seven days a week, you do not worship Him on one day a week.” Don’t wait till Sunday. Be amazed at the birth of Jesus and all the planning that was being fulfilled. Be amazed that God loved you so much that He has chosen you to be His very own!
Take some time and worship Him now. Romans 12:1 (NIV)
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.
A verse to meditate on:
Matthew 2:5-6 (NIV)
5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'”
