Readings Luke 4:17-19
If this was your house, and you woke up to it, you know what would have to happen that day.
But what if there was nothing obvious like this to get done?
Dear brothers and sisters,
Luke 4:17-19 (NASB95)
17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written,
18 “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED,
19 TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.”
Just woke up and read these verses today. Got me thinking. So many people looking for something to do in their lives. Young people wondering what career to go into. Men looking for a challenge. Women looking for relationships. Retirees trying to fill their time. Elderly not wanting to be placed on the shelf.
What if this position was available? What an awesome job! Just think of the changed lives!
The position is probably taken. I am sure there is some age restriction. Experience is for sure a must. Even though they don’t say so, it is probably more for one gender or another. And if I have some sort of disability, I am most certainly disqualified. Better keep looking for something else to do.
What, you say this position is still open?
Yes, I know that Jesus is reading this passage from Isaiah, and concludes that it is about Himself. Yet, isn’t His work to be continued to be done through our bodies as believers? He came to seek and to save the lost. He came to serve, not be served. Isn’t as we offer our bodies as living sacrifices that He is able to continue His work through us? Galatians 2:20 tells us that we no longer live, but Christ lives in us. And isn’t it in sharing the Gospel with others that people are freed from captivity, those blinded are enabled to see, life is given……….relationship with God is restored?
Let’s give up trying to find something to do! We have found it.
