Quote of the week

“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.”      James 1:22 (NASB95)

Oh, that we could understand grace completely!   It is our desire that we continually live in the unlimited grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.  It is only by this undeserved gift of God that we can enjoy life, that is Jesus Himself.  Apart from God’s grace, we would still be lost.  You are welcome to join us as we seek to live out our lives in gratitude and in the power of God alone.

  1. “He must increase, we must decrease”, is actually a call to liberation. The pleasures promise of the world around us consume us even while promising liberation. Yet, as we continually place Christ at the center, and step farther to the side we find ourselves more fulfilled, valued, and free. That is what I have experienced.

  2. Very good thoughts, Adam. What seems like bondage to so many people, the commands of God, are not bondage, but means of His children being able to enjoy Him. Rather than enjoy all of the Garden of Eden, (as they were free to partake of the entire garden except for one tree), they chose to disobey, doubting God’s intentions for them. We see the result of separation from God, death, eternal condemnation, far from Gods intended purpose. But apart from that disobedience we would not have been able to enjoy His grace and mercy and love. I believe the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament as well as Christ’s summation of the Law in the New Testament again were avenues of enjoying God and others. But we obviously are unable to follow them apart from the Spirit of God. As we “decrease” and allow Christ by His Spirit to live in and through us, we once again are able to see the image of God being restored to be able to relate to God and one another. That is freedom to enjoy what we were created for. That is the fulfillment which so many long for.

If He is not willing that any should perish, and He’s not. Why do I spend so much of my time acting like I am willing that some perish?
